Her story
goddess · Greek world, Mycenaean roots through the Classical city-states (c. 1400–100 BCE)
Born fully armoured from the head of Zeus, Athena guarded Athens with the owl, the olive and the loom. She favoured cunning over brute strength — guiding Odysseus home and turning craft, law and clear thinking into acts of devotion.
She won Athens by gift rather than force: against Poseidon's saltwater spring she offered the olive tree, and the city chose the thing that could feed it. Her Panathenaic festival centred on weaving and presenting a new robe for her statue, so devotion to her was measured in finished work — and the Odyssey has her intervene as advice and disguise, never as a thunderbolt.
