Her story

Historical context

goddess · Archaic Greece and Caria, c. 700 BCE onward

Hesiod gives Hekate honour in earth, sea and sky — unusual respect for a goddess of the margins. She alone heard Persephone taken and walked with Demeter carrying torches, then stayed on as Persephone's companion between worlds.

Mythology & traditions

Households left her a supper at the crossroads each new moon, food that the poor could take. She holds keys because she governs doorways: not the room you are leaving or entering, but the threshold itself, and she is the only one willing to stand there while you decide.

Her guidance

Maiden

What you need to sow

Begin at the fork. Choose one road tonight rather than standing in the junction.

Mother

What you need to grow

Nurture what you keep at the threshold — the small rites that mark your days.

Crone

What you need to know

You are between two worlds and that is a place, not a failure. Take the torch.
