Her story

Historical context

goddess · Scandinavia, Viking Age

Hel, daughter of Loki, was cast into the mist-world and given rule over everyone who does not die in battle — the old, the sick, the ordinary. Half her face is living, half is not, and her hall receives all comers without ceremony.

Mythology & traditions

When the gods begged for Baldr back she agreed on one condition: every single thing in the world must weep for him. One giantess refused, and Baldr stayed. Her terms were not cruel — they were exact. She is the only power in the myths who cannot be flattered, bargained down or fought.

Begin by accepting the unglamorous version. Start it small, quiet and real.

Mother

What you need to grow

Nurture rest. Not recovery-for-productivity — actual stillness.

Crone

What you need to know

The condition is exact and one thing is refusing. Look for what will not weep.
