Her story

Historical context

goddess · Greece, from Mycenaean cult through the Roman period

Hera was worshipped in Argos and Samos as a great goddess in her own right long before myth cast her as a jealous wife. Her temples marked the stages of a woman's life — girl, bride, ruling matron.

Mythology & traditions

Every year she bathed in a spring and was made a maiden again. Her anger in the myths is the anger of a sovereign whose covenant has been broken, not a nagging one: she holds the standard nobody else will.

What you need to sow

Begin something you are willing to formally commit to. Say the vow out loud.

What you need to grow

Nurture the agreement — a marriage, a partnership, a household — with attention, not assumption.

Crone

What you need to know

Know where a promise to you was broken. Naming it is not bitterness; it is order.
