Her story

Historical context

goddess · Slavic folk tradition, attested from medieval sources onward

Lada appears throughout Slavic spring songs as the name called at the return of warmth, in wedding rites and in round-dances. Scholars argue about how ancient the goddess behind the refrain is; the songs themselves are undisputed and still sung.

Mythology & traditions

Her season is the moment the ice gives — the cranes coming back, the first green, the marriages arranged after winter. She stands for concord rather than passion: the harmony of a household, a village, two families deciding to get along. Peace as something actively made, and sung into being.
