Her story

Historical context

goddess · Greece, primordial and Orphic tradition

Nyx is one of the first beings, mother of Sleep, Death, Dreams and the Fates. Even Zeus, Homer says, feared to offend her — night is older than any throne.

Mythology & traditions

In the Orphic hymns she is not evil but generative: the cosmos hatches from an egg laid in her darkness. What cannot be seen is not therefore absent; it is gestating.

Maiden

What you need to sow

Begin in private. Let the new thing exist unwitnessed for a while.

Mother

What you need to grow

Nurture rest and dreaming. Your rhythms need the dark half of the cycle.

Crone

What you need to know

Know that not everything must be explained to be true. Sit with the unlit part.
