Lady of the Painted Thread
Ix Chebel Yax is a name used in colonial Yucatec sources for an aged female sacred figure associated with painting, weaving and learned craft. Modern scholarship sometimes connects her with the elderly ‘Goddess O’ shown in Maya codices, but names, images and divine identities do not align neatly across Classic, Postclassic and colonial sources, so the identification remains cautious.
